In this audiovisual recording from Thursday, March 26, 2015, as part of the 46th Annual UND Writers Conference: “The Other Half,” Carol Muske-Dukes reads from her mother Elsie Muske’s memoir Wyndmere Wind-Rows: Memories of Growing up on the Dakota Plains, an poems from her collection Sparrow, as well as the poems “Orphanage,” “Failure to Thrive,” “River Road,” “Boy,” and “Resurrection.” Muske-Dukes also responds to audience questions about the loss of elocution classes in school, specific aspects of her poems, poets of the past who she finds herself “conversing” with in her own work, her relationship with form, and others.
