In this audiovisual recording from Wednesday, March 22, 2006, as part of the 37th Annual UND Writers Conference: “Border Crossings,” Barry Lopez, Robin Magowan, Sam Pickering, and Branca Vilela participate in a panel called "Writing Sans Frontiers: Writing Across Geographical/Cultural Borders." The panelists discuss the definition of orders and how place is captured in writing, extending their conversation to music and poetry and the Iraq war from American and European perspectives. The panelists also discuss the connection between place and imagination as writers mediate linguistic, aesthetic, intellectual, and cultural borders.
