In this audiovisual recording from Friday, March 22, 2002, as part of the 33rd Annual UND Writers Conference: “Explorations,” Bill Holm reads a selection of poetry and nonfiction. Holm reads the poems “A Retired Farmer Working as a Greeter at Wal-Mart,” Leo Dangel’s “Farming in a Lilac Shirt,” “Silence in North Dakota,” “Birthday Poem,” an untitled poem about prunes, “Bread Soup: An Old Icelandic Recipe,” “The Ghost of Wang Wei Looks at Skagafjord,” “Hallelujah at the Sioux Falls Airport,” “An Early Morning Cafe,” and “The Sea Eats What It Pleases.” Holm also reads excerpts from Eccentric Islands: Travels Real and Imaginary. Holm closes with a ragtime piano performance.
