In this audiovisual recording from Tuesday, March 16, 1999, as part of the 30th annual UND Writers Conference: “Expressing the Sacred,” Joseph Bruchac, Mark Doty, and Terry Tempest Williams participate in a panel called “Defining the Sacred.” The panelists discuss exploring their senses of existentialism through experiences of grace, love, and transcendence, the intersection of writing and sacredness, the literature that taught them about sacredness and transcendence, and forms of art that deal with sacredness. The panelists also hear from the audience about audience members’ perceptions of cross-cultural sacredness.
