Description

In this audiovisual recording from Friday, March 21, 1997, as part of the 28th Annual UND Writers Conference: “Writing Nature: The Nature of Writing,” Susan Griffin reads a selection of her work. Griffin reads the poems “Twentieth Century Vision,” “Consummation,” and “Hunger,” an excerpt from the essay “Where No One Dwells,” an excerpt from the play Thicket, an excerpt from Chorus of Stones: The Private Life of War, and an unpublished book chapter titled “The Child's Body.” Griffin also responds to audience questions about her forms of writing, science, activism, her definition of pornography, her sense of place, and her approach to difficult interviews with major figures in war for Chorus of Stones. Griffin closes by reading the poem “I Wake Thinking of Myself as a Man.”
