In this audiovisual recording from Thursday, March 20, 1997, as part of the 28th Annual UND Writers Conference: “Writing Nature: The Nature of Writing," Bill McKibben, David Treuer, and Susan Griffin participate in a panel called “Writing Nature.” The panel opens with a reading by Judith Hanson, the Grand Forks Herald-elected Poet Laureate of the winter of 1997, who reads her poem “Survivor.” The panelists then discuss their personal definitions of nature, wandering and rootlessness, the intersection of nature and technology, and their advice to people who want to write about place.
