Description
In this audiovisual recording from Wednesday, March 22, 1995, as part of the 26th Annual UND Writers Conference: “States of the Art,” Tim O’Brien talks about why he is a fiction writer and reads from his work. O'Brien reads excerpts from The Things They Carried, including “The Man I Killed.” He also reads an early version of what would become Tomcat in Love, explaining that he wanted to gauge the reaction of the audience and see if he should continue. Finally, O'Brien discusses whether or not the things that he writes about are “true.”
Introduced by Mike Morton.
