In this audiovisual recording from Tuesday, March 22, 1983, as part of the 14th Annual UND Writers Conference: “The Centennial Year,” Joseph Brodsky reads a selection of his poetry. Brodsky reads “A Martial Law Carol” in English, “Six Years Later,” “Nature Morte,” “Verses on the Winter Campaign, 1980,” “The Letters From the Ming Dynasty,” “Eclogue IV: Winter,” and “York: In Memoriam of W.H. Auden” in Russian, with Bill Gard reading the English translations of all but “Eclogue IV: Winter,” which is read by Carolyn Forché.
