Description
In this audiovisual recording from Wednesday, March 20th, 1974, as part of the 5th Annual UND Writers Conference: “City Lights in North Dakota,” Gary Snyder and Michael McClure continue their joint reading. Snyder begins with the poem “Why Log Truck Drivers Rise Earlier than Students of Zen” before they take a short break. Then, McClure reads a poem about how the Vietnam war has negatively affected Americans, a poem about a stain glass window, a poem based off of a line from one of Shakespeare’s sonnets, “Ode for Soft Voice,” “1972,” and many others. Snyder reads “The Bath,” “The Egg,” “Straight-Creek--Great Burn,” “Two Logging Songs,” “LMFBR," “What Happened Here Before,” and others. Snyder also reads some of the poems of Lew Welch.
