Description

A photograph of UND Football player, Victor Wardrope, in his football uniform in 1902. Wardrope played on the 1899-1902 Football Team, 1903 Football Team, and the 1904 Football Team. Wardrope lettered in 1899-1902, 1903, and 1904, and Wardrope was captain in 1902, 1903, and 1904. Wardrope played full back on the 1899-1902 football team and played right tackle on the 1904 team. Victor Wardrope's description in the 1906 Dacotah reads: "For three seasons this doughty athlete has captained a victorious football team, and in many a game the tide has been turned in favor of the U.N.D. by his brilliant rushes and tackles. In the realms of debate he has also won honors for his Alma Mater. It is with woman's heart, however, he has created his greatest havoc, as no girl can long withstand his charm of manner. Ontario was honored by his birth but his daily excursions to Davis Hall and the Cottage have made of him a typical American" (56). For more information on the UND Football Team see UNDs Football Media Guide, 1904 Annual pg 169-170, and A Century of UND Sports, pg 47.
