Description
A group photograph of the 1899 UND Football Team. The football players are sitting on steps for the photograph with two wooden chairs in the background. Pictured in the front row is Skulason. In row two, from left to right, is Carpenter, Flanagan, Nuessle, Currier, Coach Loomis. Identified in row three, left to right, are: Thompson, Jewell, Crew, Lemke, Captain Frazier, Thomson, and Wilson. In row four, from left to right: Murphy, Wilcox, Ward, Duty, Moran, Olson, McLean, Jennings. Identified in the back row are: Fitzmaurice, Manager Professor Brannon, Stead, Robinson, and Wardrope. The 1899 team was a successful team on and off the field. Frazier became the first UND alumnus to be elected governor of North Dakota, Nuessle became chief justice of the North Dakota Supreme Court, Lemke became North Dakota's attorney general and then served in Congress, and Wardrope was the first alumnus appointed a University trustee.
