Description

A photograph of the 1930 UND Football Team, dressed in mining gear, visiting the Leonard Mine in Butte, Montana, on December 29, 1930. The 1930 UND Football Team had a record of 9-1. The football team stopped off at the mine on the way home from Los Angeles. According to the 1932 Dacotah, "After the regulation grid season, Coaches 'Jack' West and 'Buck' Starbeck took their Sioux Nomad charges to Los Angeles where they met the Los Angeles Athletic Club on Christmas Day at the Los Angeles Coliseum. In a thrilling battle unrivaled by any gridiron contests seen on the West Coast this season, the Sioux Warriors ran rough shod over the Los Angeles Fire Laddies 14 to 9."
