Artist Bio
Ken Moylan is from Eveleth, Minnesota. Moylan is known for his detailed paintings and sculptural compositions. He studied at the University of Minnesota Duluth and earned his BFA from the Minneapolis College of Art and Design in 1980. Moylan combines traditional painting, sculpture, and woodworking techniques to create illusionistic works that blur the boundaries between two- and three-dimensional art. His compositions often incorporate architectural elements, forced perspective, wood veneers, and gold or silver leaf to achieve a sense of depth and realism. Moylan received a McKnight Foundation Fellowship in 1986 and multiple Minnesota State Arts Board grants. His work has been exhibited throughout the United States and is represented in numerous private, corporate, and museum collections.
Additional Information
A mixed media artwork that hangs flat on the wall but is constructed as an optical illusion to look like the canvas is on an easel. The canvas is painted with a landscape scene covered with shadows that indicate a window, adding to the optical illusion effect.
