Artist Bio

Lily Roman is an artist based in southern California. Her paintings explore themes of femininity, identity, and self-expression through striking portraits of women, often featuring exaggerated beehive hairstyles. She draws inspiration from mid-twentieth-century fashion. Roman transforms these iconic hairstyles into symbols of individuality, heritage, and personal identity. She uses dramatic contrasts of light and shadow to evoke emotion and introspection. Roman's work invites viewers to reflect on the relationship between outward appearance and personal history.

Additional Information

An abstracted portrait of a woman with a cropped haircut sitting on a chair in a yellow dress with bright blue stripes on the front. There is an orange cat on her right and the white outline of a dog on her right. On the wall behind the woman there is a painting of a cat and a shelf with a large knight chess piece. In the distance, through either a door or window behind the dog, there is an island scene with pink, green and baby blue clouds, water, and palm trees.
