Artist Bio
Diana Rosa was born and raised in Cuba and now works in Brampton, Ontario. She paints in a naïve folk-art style, using bold color and flat layers of paint rather than conventional draughtsmanship, and often mixes realistic and invented elements in the same picture. Her subjects are drawn largely from her own life and take up questions of identity, relationships, and the way people live with the land and with animals. She traces this perspective to her youth, growing up close to the natural landscape around her. She names Cézanne, Matisse, and Frida Kahlo among her influences.
