Artist Bio
Rose Briccetti is a painter and printmaker based in Santa Barbara, California. Her subject is often women in the workplace and her estrangement from the work she does. She describes the images as self-portraits by proxy. They show women bound to their bodies and to jobs that are empty and routine. Some of these women carry on through outright chaos. Others just grind forward. She draws on a retro 1950s to 70s version of the female figure and uses it to register a wish to get out from under the rules imposed on it. She holds a BFA from Washington University in St. Louis and won the Jeffery Frank Wacks Painting Award in 2008. Her work has been shown in St. Louis, Newark, Houston, Dickinson, North Dakota, and Santa Barbara.
