Artist Bio
Angu Walters works in Bamenda, in Cameroon's Northwest region. He began painting as a boy, using ink from ballpoint pens on scraps of cardboard, and was taken on as a student by the Cameroonian artist Nzante Spee, whose mix of cubist, surreal, and naïve elements shaped his own approach. He paints in abstract figurative and surreal styles, returning often to musicians, mothers, families, and village life; he is a musician himself, and lives with his wife and daughter. His work has been exhibited in Cameroon, the Netherlands, Australia, and the United States, including the Cameroon National Museum in Yaoundé and the U.S. Embassy there, and he has mentored a number of younger artists in turn.

An abstract painting rendered in a range of blue, green, and purple of two musicians sitting close together behind a pair of hand drums, one playing while the other raises a flute to his mouth. Their bodies, faces, drums and the background are stylized.
