Artist Bio
Richard Rotzien was a Grand Forks native. He was a self-taught artist and avid fisherman. The fish of North Dakota and Minnesota were the inspiration for his work. He often carved fish out of wood and then painted them in his realistic style. He also often worked in the medium of Gouache on board to create vibrant, realistic wildlife paintings.
Additional Information
A Northern Pike is pictured preying on a small Perch underwater. The artist also depicts plants that make the scene look like a realistic Minnesota lake floor.
