Artist Bio
Jon Offutt is a Fargo based glass artist who has spent his career in glass blowing. He is especially known for his serene landscape vessels. After many years of building his skills, and serving the community, he is now reevaluating his relationship with his work, experimenting with new colors and researching new color applications on 2D forms.

Prairie Surrealism:
Large Red Lip invites viewers to look beneath the surface of the prairie. Organic lines wandering up the base of the vessel suggest roots, burrows, waterways, or unseen ecological networks, transforming an everyday vessel into a meditation on the hidden systems that shape the landscape. The work reflects Prairie Surrealism by revealing the extraordinary within the familiar.
A celebrated North Dakota glass artist, Offutt spent decades traveling the region with his mobile glassblowing studio, bringing innovation and craftsmanship directly to prairie communities. By transforming sand into luminous glass, his work reveals the prairie itself as a laboratory of materials, processes, and discovery. Like the University of North Dakota's research mission, it suggests that meaningful breakthroughs often begin not by looking elsewhere, but by learning to see this place and its hidden possibilities more deeply.
