Artist Bio

Carl Homstad attended Luther College in Decorah, Iowa where he graduated with a BA in art in 1973. His work explored mediums ranging from carved woodcut prints to watercolor and oil paintings. Homstad is an award-winning artist who has exhibited in numerous juried and invitational shows. His work is the in the permanent collections of several institutions in the midwest, and he has also completed multiple murals in several states.

He describes his work as "naturalistic" rather than "realistic." Homstad takes inspiration from Japanese woodblocks. In particular, like the famous prints of Mt. Fuji, Homstad's prints are often of the same subjects in many different perspectives, angles, and seasons. In 2022 his work was featured in a retrospective at the Vesterheim Gallery entitled, An Artist's Journey: Carl Homstad, 50 Years.
