Artist Bio
Sandra “Sandy” Blain received her BS in Art Education in 1964 from Northern Illinois University, her MS in Art in 1967 from the University of Wisconsin in Milwaukee, and her MFA in Ceramics in 1972 from the same university. Blain worked as the Director of the Arrowmont School of Arts and Crafts in Gatlinburg, Tennessee, from 1980 – 2001 from which she received Director Emeritus in 2001. She then worked as a professor at the University of Tennessee School of Art in Knoxville from 1964 to 2004 from which she received Professor Emeritus in 2005. Blain has worked as an adjunct faculty member at the Mesa Arts Center in Mesa, Arizona since 2006. Blain’s style of art is to use found objects as textural tools in her ceramics, mixing old styles of pottery with modern objects and decorations.
