For a time, Berry worked as an illustrator and painter in New York City, but eventually accepted a position to teach art at the University of Texas in 1968. Berry later taught graphic design and illustration at Boston University between 1974 – 1978 and then accepted a position as the Professor of Art at the University of Missouri where he retired in 1991 with the title of Curators’ Professor of Art Emeritus.
