Additional Information
Through the use of turbulent strokes of black against a serene cream-colored paper, the artist displays a complex interaction of emotions between work and viewer. The alluring tone of the cream-colored paper draws the viewer in but the chaos of the black strokes of color and deep brown splatters keep the viewer at a distance creating a horizontal balance of power, reminiscent of the work of Mark Rothko, who was practicing a similar style of abstract expressionism until the time of his death in 1970.
