Bighorn Ram, 1980

UND Art Collections: Art & Design Study Collection

In this work, Henry Peterson gives us only part of the bighorn ram. The piece seems unfished, or half complete as if something happened in the middle of creating the artwork. Like the nearby work of Jessica Mongeon, the viewer is asked to fill in the blanks – or perhaps imagine what is missing or what could be. Bighorn rams often represent power and boldness, so leaving the work unfinished may represent that no matter how strong we are, we are still a work in progress.
