Artist Bio
Laura Youngbird earned her BA, BFA, and MA from Minnesota State University Moorhead. She is both an artist and an educator. Youngbird was the first Director of Native American Art Programs at Plains Art Museum. The artist also taught art at Circle of Nations School in Wahpeton, North Dakota, as an Artist-in-Residence for the North Dakota Council on the Arts and Fargo Public Schools. Youngbird has received many awards in recognition of her artwork.
Much of Youngbird's artwork is based on her culture and familial experiences. She is an enrolled member of the Minnesota, Chippewa Grand Portage Band. The artist states that she is particularly drawn to the idea of intergenerational knowledge and memory.
Youngbird's specialty is printmaking but the artist also works in mixed media, drawing, painting, sculpture and ceramics as well.
