Artist Bio
Kay Ornberg, a longtime resident of North Dakota, currently resides in Rollag, Minnesota. However, she spent the majority of her life and career working in Fargo where she owned Art Connection and often showed her work in Uptown Gallery. She received her degree from Concordia College in 1962. She started her career working in oils and acrylics but now works chiefly in watercolor. Ornberg was heavily involved in the Fargo art community. An exhibition of her watercolors were shown in "The Human Figure and My Rural Surroundings" at Rourke Art Museum in 2018.
Additional Information
The artist said of this work, "This painting is a part of a series that started with the kaleidoscope tulip paintings. It evolved by replacing the floral element with the figure and fracturing the circle. The layered figure shapes made possible new shapes to emphasize with color while still trying to suggest the initial figures. The nonchalant character of the large figure and the many smaller figures filling the space lead to the idea for the title."
