The School of Medicine and Health Sciences at the University of North Dakota’s Department of Educational Resources hosts the Teaching, Learning, and Scholarship (TLAS) Academy. The TLAS Academy is a faculty development program designed to address challenges and areas faced by educator scholars within academia with an annual focus. The 2023 Educator Scholars addressed the topic of active independent learning after COVID-19. Educators were tasked with creating a new tool, program, module, or resource to enable student success through active independent learning. Through this process, the six educator scholars met with their cohort, a previous TLAS Academy participant, engaged in research and scholarship on active independent learning, met with instructional designers and librarians, and developed their project to address a need within their course or field. The projects and portfolios created are designed to address student’s learning need and objectives within the scholar’s field including: Undergraduate Medical Education, Library Resources, Medical Lab Science, Biomedical Science, and Sports Medicine.
