Abstract

The main purpose of this study was to determine the perceived level of importance and the perceived level of satisfaction of the membership with the various services and activities that are provided by the North Dakota Council of School Administrators (NDCSA). A secondary purpose was to gather information so that recommendations could be made to the NDCSA Board of Directors regarding the future operation and direction of the NDCSA. A questionnaire was developed by the researcher to gather this information. The questionnaire was sent to 652 members of the NDCSA; 564 (86.5%) were completed and returned. The data were analyzed by using a t test to determine if there was any significant differences in the levels of importance and satisfaction regarding the services and activities as perceived by the NDCSA members. A one-way analysis of variance test was used to determine whether any significant differences existed between and within the various groups regarding their perception of the level of importance and level of satisfaction with the services and activities provided by the NDCSA.The ratings by the members of the NDCSA regarding the level of importance and the level of satisfaction with the services and activities provided by the NDCSA indicated a high degree of importance and satisfaction as perceived by the members. The ratings also indicated that the level of importance was significantly higher than the level of satisfaction on all but two of the services and activities surveyed. The responses also indicated that the most important services and the services that produced the most satisfaction were related to legislative activity, professional development, and providing information. The members also indicated that relations with the DPI, higher education, and the governor's office were important, but they were less satisfied with them. The least important services or activities were related to the summer conference and relationships with the NDPTA and NDEA.The perceptions of the members based on characteristics such as primary membership, degrees attained, and years of services produced considerable differences in the level of importance and satisfaction regarding the NDCSA services and activities.
