Abstract
The purpose of this study was to identify inservice needs as perceived by secondary business and office educators for effectively educating disadvantaged and/or handicapped students.A total of 500 participants were contacted by mail and asked to respond to a questionnaire survey. The response was 57.2 percent, or 286, of the 500 business and office educators.Nationally, business and office educators perceived all twenty inservice need items as being immediate in the mentally handicapped section. Nationally, the three most important items for educating mentally handicapped students were: (1) Determining mentally handicapped students' capabilities. (2) Identifying mentally handicapped students. (3) Developing positive attitudes of other students toward mentally handicapped students.Business and office educators perceived all twenty items relating to physically handicapped students as being immediate in nature. Nationally, the three needs perceived as the most important in working effectively with physically handicapped students were: (1) Determining physically handicapped students' capabilities. (2) Identifying physically handicapped students. (3) Developing positive attitudes toward working with physically handicapped students. The perceived needs of business and office educators in relation to disadvantaged students showed that 18 of the 20 inservice need items were immediate. Nationally, the three most important need items for educating disadvantaged students were: (1) Motivating disadvantaged students. (2) Identifying disadvantaged students. (3) Determining disadvantaged students' capabilities.
