Abstract
The purpose of this study was to attempt to clarify the role expectations held for the administrator of activities of schools in North Dakota as perceived by school board presidents, supervisors of activities, and the administrators themselves.A questionnaire developed by the researcher asked respondents to complete twenty-five questions. The multiple choice questions dealt with practical problem situations the administrator of activities may face. The questionnaire was sent to school board presidents, administrators of activities, and supervisors of activities in all twenty Class A schools and forty selected Class B schools. The supervisors included those involved with music, speech, debate, drama, and athletic programs.Analysis of the data was completed by making multiple comparisons of the responses to the administrative situations among the three groups of respondents from the two classes of schools. The areas of agreement and the differences in responses were examined.Instances were discerned where board presidents and supervisors had different expectations of administrators of activities. This finding demonstrates the difficulty for the administrator in meeting the expectations of important constituencies.
