Abstract
The dissertation is a collection of original, free-verse poetry. The manuscript contains fifty-four poems and is sixty-four book pages in length (double spaced). The poems are predominately first-person point-of-view, and they explore the relationships between physical desires and spiritual needs.The collection is organized into three parts, "Body and Soul," "Soul at Home," and "Body Abroad." "Body and Soul" presents a character who sways between satisfying his physical desires and his spiritual needs. In "Soul at Home," the main character finds time to satisfy his spiritual questioning, but he still feels physically lonely and unsatisfied. Subsequently, in "Body Abroad," he travels abroad in hopes of finding some balance between these two worlds.
