Abstract

Fourteen children participated in this study to examine if specific or clusters of interventions are able to reduce the ultimate outcome of the use of seclusion and restraint in a residential treatment center. The purpose of this study was also to develop an increased knowledge in alternative treatment methods for reducing the use of seclusion and restraint. A modified single subject research design, utilizing multiple baselines across behaviors and individuals was used to examine least restrictive and restrictive interventions. The results indicated that the utilization of least restrictive interventions increased by the time children were discharged and the use of the restrictive interventions decreased. These results indicate that staff are providing children with a safe, least restrictive environment
