Abstract
The story of education in Clearwater County is typical of communities which possess a definite frontier background. While consisting mainly of commonplace developments, it contains enough local color to provide inefficient human interest. In the writing of the following account, the prime considerations have been (1) accuracy and (2) balance. Some items may have been omitted and some which may be insignificant have been added to properly flavor the story and present it in both an interesting and enlightening manner.
A great deal or the material has been gained through personal interview with people whose knowledge of certain situations allows them to speak authoritatively. Man, teachers and school board members, both past and present, have offered valuable data. Much in formation was gained on visits to the Minnesota Historical Society, the Minnesota State Department or Education, and the libraries of the Universities and or Minnesota and North Dakota. Detailed accounts have been provided by annual reports end newspapers, although most early copies of such sources were long ago destroyed.
In organizing the subject matter, the plan has been to first lay framework by telling the general story of the country's. Section II deals with the first schools teachers. Section III traces various phases of rural school development, particularly administration, operations and personnel. In section IV, special emphasis is placed upon the three high schools of the country. Section V includes the more recent trends and developments in the school county education
