Abstract

This thesis is intended to provide a general understanding of the trust instrument and how it can be used effectively by an individual. The reader of this thesis will be provided with the basic knowledge of trusts starting with the terminology involved and proceeding on through the administration of trusts and illustrations on how trusts are used by individuals. It is not intended to be a handbook on the law of trusts. Only generally accepted principles of law are stated and these only to the extent needed to develop the topic under discussion.

I should like to take this opportunity to express my thanks to those who aided me in the development of this thesis and particularly to the members of my graduate committee, Mr. R. D. Koppenhaver, Mr. Ludwik Kulas, and Doan T. J. Clifford, who were extremely helpful.
