Abstract
This independent study was carried out at a popular food production company. French fries are one of the most popularly consumed fast food in the entire world. Business empires have been built from the profits. Quality standards in a food production company specific to frozen foods are very high. These standards ensure that the food would be edible until the date promised, if stored under desirable conditions. In addition, companies face a tough task of adhering to the standards set by the customers, who desire a certain cut, and characteristics from their product. As a result companies that supply products to fast food chains could ill afford not to maintain the quality standards.
The study concentrated on finding the real cause behind problems faced by the mismatch between the codes (bag and case) and the inability of the operators to change the dates to match those of the bags and cases during the rework process. Suggestions were provided to resolve the issues which could be utilized to avoid future errors.
The study involved the careful analysis of each bag and case from the reworked pallets. The codes were noted as they would help the company to delete pallet tickets from the system, allowing them to accept orders and predict accurate delivery schedules. The suggestions provided would help the company pay attention to areas which were the bottlenecks in the entire process. These suggestions include ensuring that the personnel understood the magnitude of errors during the rework process, implementing quality check points to prevent errors occurring in the future, working with the customized software to ensure that personnel had the option of changing dates while generating the pallet tickets and, concentrating on the training procedures to provide the workers with maximum amount of time to learn the new processes. The above suggestions were helpful in ironing out the errors from the rework system and ensuring that the correct products with the right codes are delivered to the customer.
