Abstract
This independent study examines the Shade-grown Tobacco Industry in the Connecticut Valley. This study follows the historical development of the cigar wrapper tobacco in the region. It details the current production methods and evaluates the structure of the industry. This study also presents some of the new methods appearing the the industry and will focus upon what may be the future of the industry
The interviews conducted with Mr. Anthony F. Amenta, executive director, Shade Tobacco Growers Agricultural Association, Incorporated and Mr. Raymond Garcia, general manager, Windsor Shade Tobacco Company, provided invaluable information concerning the present structure and marketing practices of the industry.
