Abstract
The purpose of this study is to examine the question of whether bureaucracy as an organizational form will survive in the age of accelerating technological and social change which is coming into being at this time. By analyzing the strengths and weaknesses of the bureaucratic form of organization, together with the environmental factors which lend it strength, then comparing these factors with present and projected organizational needs and environmental constraints, the conclusion was reached that a modified, more flexible form of bureaucracy will survive into the future. It will be one of several organizational forms, such as matrix organization and project management, which will be available for use by future organizations
