Abstract
In order to compete in a global economy, employees across the United States are forced into shift work in increasing numbers. Shift workers often encounter health concerns not faced by those who work normal hours, including sleep disturbances, mental health issues, and injuries related to fatigue and exhaustion. The aim of this paper was to identify issues faced by shift workers, particularly nurses. Development of the educational content was derived from a comprehensive study of the most prevalent issues facing shift workers and was presented in a group setting which encouraged the active participation of all in attendance. Promoting overall well-being is essential to the reduction of potentially harmful errors, workplace injuries, and chronic illness frequently associated with shift work
