Abstract
The role of locus of control of reinforcement, as measured by .the SPIES (Mischel, Zeis & Zeis, 1974), in self-control was examined in a resistance to temptation procedure with preschool children. Relevant literature was discussed and performance on the I+ subscale of the SPIES was correlated with delay during the resistance to temptation experiment. Verbalizations during the delay were recorded to assess their effect on delay time. Neither subscale of the SPIES was significantly con:-elated with delay time, methodological factors and general applicability of the SPIES were discussed. Implications of this study for future work were also discussed
