Artist Bio
Maria and Julian Martinez are best known for their collaborations with on another. While Maria formed and polished the vessels, Julian painted the designs on the pottery. Although they occasionally created vessels with colored designs, the couple gained an international reputation for their work with matte black designs on the polished black surfaces of their pottery. They went on to train three younger generations of potters in their family to carry on their legacy.
