Artist Bio

Maude Olrich Wolf was born in Germany in 1882. She immigrated with her parents and siblings to the United States around 1901 and married her husband Benjamin Wolf in 1907. They spent the majority of their life in North Dakota where they owned a grain elevator.

She made this piece of pottery between the mid 1920s and the mid 30s. Although she did not attend UND traditionally, she most likely took a ceramics class as what was known then as a "special student." A "special student" was usually a person from the community that was not seeking a degree but wanted to take a course through the ceramics department. These classes were very popular with women from the community who were homemakers.
