Abstract
The project investigates the impact of pharmaceutical nurse educators providing oncology practice nurses with education on oral anticancer medication adherence. A sample of nine registered nurses and advanced practice nurses participated in the pre-education survey and educational intervention, whereas seven participated in the post-education survey. Using a quantitative, quasi-experimental design, the project found an increase in understanding of the role pharmaceutical nurse educators play on the multidisciplinary team following the educational intervention. The findings support the need for an industry-wide naming clarification for the pharmaceutical nurse educator role, including the title across companies. Additionally, the need for the pharmaceutical nurse educator to reaffirm the role to target offices to differentiate it from sales counterparts was identified. The project contributes to the limited existing literature on PNEs and their impact on nurses' understanding and patient outcomes.
