Abstract

Chief Magistrate Judge Karen K. Klein of the United States District Court for the District of North Dakota has announced her decision to retire after 30 years of public service with the federal judiciary. Judge Klein will retire on January 10, 2015. The United States Judicial Conference Committee on the Magistrate Judges System has approved filling the vacancy upon Judge Klein's retirement. The Committee has also recommended eliminating the part-time magistrate judge position at Grand Forks. The Judicial Conference will consider that recommendation at its September meeting. Chief Judge Ralph R. Erickson wishes to recognize the contributions Judge Klein has made serving the citizens of North Dakota. Erickson said Judge Klein is a nationally recognized expert in mediation and settlement. She has trained hundreds of federal and state judges in the effective use of mediation techniques. Judge Klein's service has been invaluable to the federal court and the administration of justice.
