Several Law School Alumni Receive Honors at SBAND Annual Meeting

The State Bar Association of North Dakota installed new officers at its general assembly June 12, 2014.
Jack McDonald, of Bismarck is now SBAND president. He replaces Nancy Morris, of Fargo.
McDonald is a 1970 University of North Dakota School of Law graduate and in private legal practice. Morris, a 1991 UND law graduate, is also in private practice.
Joe Wetch of Fargo will serve as president-elect. He is a 2001 UND law graduate and an attorney in private practice.
Aubrey Fiebelkorn-Zuger, '08, of Fargo was re-appointed secretary-treasurer. Connie Cleveland, '88, of Fargo was appointed to the SBAND Board of Governors' East Central Judicial District slot previously held by president-elect Wetch
SBAND recognized William C. Marcil, chairman of Forum Communications Co. in Fargo, with the Liberty Bell Award for improving public understanding about the law.
Rep. Bob Martinson, R-Bismarck, was honored with the Legislative Service Award.
Attorney Ron McLean, '75, of Fargo received SBAND's highest honor for attorneys, the Distinguished Service Award.
Community service awards were presented to one person per judicial district:
- The East Central Judicial District recipient was Christopher Myers
- The Northeast Central Judicial District recipient was Kristi Petit-Venhuizen
- The Northwest Judicial District recipient was Judge William McLees, '76.
- The South Central Judicial District recipient was Judge David Reich, '82.
- The Southeast Judicial District recipient was Gary Neuharth
- The Southwest Judicial District recipient was Mary Nordsven
50 year service awards were presented to UND Law Class of 1964 Alumni R. Jon Fitzner, Hon. Benny A. Graff, Clifford C. Grosz, and Patrick J. Maddock. Irvin B. Nodland, and Hon. Harlan P. Weir also received 50 year service awards.
40 year service awards were presented to UND Law Class of 1974 Alumni Christian M. Anderson, Owen L. Anderson, John V. Boulger, Linda Ann Catalano, Hon. Georgia Dawson, Jerald L. Engelman, David A. Engen, Rodney Freeman, Thomas L. Hamlin, James S. Hill, Duane E. Houdek, John P. Kjelmyr, David O. Lee, John H. MacMaster, Roger C. Malm, David S. Maring, Russell J. Myhre, Kenneth J. Norman, Richard W. Olson, Clifton G. Rodenburg, Mark G. Schneider, Douglas W. Schulz, Duane H. Schurman, Hon. Michael G. Sturdevant, and Gary R. Thune. In addition, Mary Patricia Burns, Patrick W. Durick, Lyle W. Kirmis, Gerald A. Kuhn, Ralph R. LePera, Keith C Magnusson, Richard P. Olson, Mart Daniel Vogel, and Ronald J. Weikum were also recognized for 40 years of service.
Justice For All awards in recognition of pro bono work were presented to Frannie Nelson with 303 hours, Kent Morrow, '78, with 225 hours, and Robert Keogh, '71, with 162 hours. Other attorneys with more than 50 hours pro bono service were: Tasha Gahner with 161 hours, Alexander Kelsch, '12, with 140 hours, Tracy Laaveg, '02, with 128 hours, Kristin Overboe with 124 hours, Alisha Ankers, '92, with 114 hours, and Kristin Redmann, '13, with 53 hours.
