Abstract

Carly Christenson, a freshman at St. Louis Park high School, was described as a serious person who was wise beyond her years. Although she was just beginning high school she knew that her calling in life was to be a nurse. Carly had a chance to tour UND during Homecoming of 2012, and saw a place for her here on campus. Her parents, Sandy (Finneseth) Christenson and Sean Christenson, both UND alumni, were excited about her dream of pursing a nursing degree at UND.

Carly would never get that opportunity. On January 8th, 2013, she passed away from complications of Influenza. She was only 14 years old. Her friends and family remember her love of others, especially children, and her ability to build meaningful relationships with others.

To honor her memory, classmates of Sandy's and Sean's assisted in establishing the Carly Christenson UND College of Nursing & Professional Disciplines Endowment. Annually, the endowment will support scholarships to nursing students who personify Carly's values. Nearly a year to the day of her passing, the Carly Christenson Memorial Night basketball game was held. Members of the team wore blue shoelaces in memory of Carly, and the event raised $1,500 to start the endowment off strong.

With your help, the family and friends of Carly can realize their dream of supporting future nurses at in the nursing program at UND. For information on how you can donate, please visit http://www.carlysdream.com/donate.html.
