Abstract

Govenor Jack Dalrymple appointed Norman G. Anderson to a newly created judgeship in the East Central Judicial District. The 2013 Legislature established a ninth judgeship in the East Central Judicial District which serves Cass, Steele and Traill counties.

"Norman brings an outstanding record of service and a wealth of legal experience that will be a great benefit to the citizens served by the East Central Judicial District," Dalrymple said. "I am confident that Norman will bring to this new judgeship the same sense of fairness and respect for the law that marked his distinguished career within the federal court system."

An assistant U.S. attorney in North Dakota for nearly 25 years, Anderson tried more than 100 criminal cases before retiring in 2007. During his last 10 years as a federal prosecutor, Anderson served as Senior Litigation Counsel, managing major crime cases. In 2012, Anderson was appointed to assist the U.S. Attorney's Office in North Dakota in defending against appeals filed in the death penalty case of Alphonso Rodriguez. Since retiring as a federal prosecutor, Anderson also has served as a hearing officer for the state of North Dakota.

While attending the University of North Dakota School of Law, Anderson worked as an intern for the Grand Forks County State's Attorney's Office. After graduating from law school in 1982, Anderson first worked as a law clerk for the North Dakota Supreme Court. The following year, then-U.S. Attorney Rodney Webb hired Anderson to be an assistant U.S. attorney. Anderson lives in Fargo with his wife, Susan.

On July 15, Dalrymple appointed Robin A. Schmidt and Paul W. Jacobson to fill two newly created district court judge positions in North Dakota's Northwest Judicial District.

"I am very impressed with the quality of candidates that expressed an interest in serving our state," Dalrymple said. "All of the candidates for these three positions are highly qualified and dedicated members of our legal system. I want to thank all of the candidates and the judicial nominating committee for their help in enhancing our judicial services."
