Abstract

Grand Forks Public Health Department Nursing Supervisor, Debbie Swanson, has been named the 2012 recipient of the Timothy Hockenberry, M.D. Award, presented by Third Street Clinic. Swanson is the fifth recipient of the award first established in 2009, and will be presented with the award on October 2, 2012.

"Few people have worked as hard as Debbie Swanson when it comes to expanding access to health care services," said Corey Mock, Executive Director of Third Street Clinic. "Debbie was instrumental in the creation of the Grand Forks Dental Clinic in 2007 and has been lauded for her work with the Alliance for Healthcare Access."

Debbie Swanson is co-chair of the Alliance for Healthcare Access, a coalition of health-related organizations working to create a community health center access point in Grand Forks. Information about the Alliance for Healthcare Access, including a list of participating organizations, is available at www.AllianceForHealthcare.org.

"Third Street Clinic is one of many health-related organizations that have benefited from Debbie's dedication to health care access in our community," Mock said. "She truly exemplifies the purpose of this award."

The Timothy Hockenberry, M.D. Award was named in honor of Third Street Clinic's founder to recognize those in the community dedicated to improving access to health services. Hockenberry, a practicing physician in Fallon, NV, received family medicine training in Grand Forks during the late 1980s. Hockenberry worked with colleagues and supervisors to treat uninsured patients for no cost after regular business hours.

Tax-deductible donations to Third Street Clinic in honor of Debbie Swanson may be sent to: 311 S. 4th Street, Suite 117, Grand Forks, ND 58201. A reception for Swanson will be held at the 2012 "Miracle on Third Street." Miracle on Third Street
