Abstract

The University of North Dakota College of Business and Public Administration continues to rank top in the nation when competing against peers on a national level. Students from the UND DECA organization attended Engage New York where they had the opportunity to explore marketing, finance, fashion, hospitality, and more.

The conference was put on by DECA Inc. and students took part in leadership experiences, networking, and a variety of tracks to compete in both individually and within teams. DECA Inc. is a 501(c) (3) not-for-profit student organization with more than 215,000 members in all 50 United States, the District of Columbia, Canada, China, Germany, Guam, Mexico, Puerto Rico and Spain.

Austin Shroyer, junior, majoring in entrepreneurship, and banking and finances competed in a Virtual Business Simulator Competition with an activity focused in the fashion industry. The activity was computer simulated and Shroyer was tasked with setting up a merchandising store front. With minimal experience in the fashion industry, Shroyer was able to utilize his skills from the classroom and beyond to earn 1 st place and $100 cash prize. Shroyer also took part in a team competition where he was paired with other business students across the nation. His group was part of the Entrepreneurship track and earned first place for their innovative concepts. Shroyer is another great example of our exceptional students at UND!
