UND’s Popejoy named president of North Central College Band Directors

Abstract

James Popejoy, director of bands and professor of music at the University of North Dakota, has advanced to the presidency for the North Central Division of the College Band Directors National Association (CBDNA).

The members of CBDNA are devoted to the teaching, performance, study and cultivation of music, with particular focus on the wind band medium.

In addition to serving a two year term as president, Popejoy is a member of the National Board for CBDNA. The North Central Division includes the states of Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Michigan, Minnesota, Nebraska, North Dakota, Ohio, South Dakota and Wisconsin.

Here at UND, Popejoy stays busy conducting the Wind Ensemble and the University Band. He instructs courses in graduate and undergraduate conducting as well as a rotation of classes, including instrumental literature, rehearsal techniques, and jazz pedagogy.
