The son of Representative Usher Burdick, Quentin Burdick represented North Dakota in the United States House of Representatives from 1958 to 1960 and the United States Senate from 1960 until his death in 1992.

Thomas Kleppe was the United States Secretary of the Interior from 1975 to 1977. A former mayor of Bismarck, Kleppe served in the U.S. House of Representatives from 1967 until 1971 and in the Small Business Administration from 1971 to 1975.

Milton R. Young represented North Dakota in the United States Senate from 1945 until 1981.
